This is a collection of the greatest hits of the opening morning sessions from five-day live retreats I led with co-teacher and healer Matt Kahn. These are my teachings on meditation, yoga, mantras, and the transformational power of chanting. Feel what happens in the body when you make or listen to sacred sound. Let it sweep away the dust in the corners of the mind, enliven and energize the cells, or bring more peace and stillness into your life.

Live Chants Vol. 1

Out of the three-volume set of live retreat chants, this one has a very sacred feel to it. Whether the chants are more meditative or more lively, they are sure to soothe and stir the soul in the most profound ways.

Track 1 Introduction & Om Chant – This is an intro to chanting the primordial sound of Om. It is a sacred sound that is said to be the first sound in the Universe. It is a deep, delicious dive into the transformative energetic power of chant.

Track 2 Om Shanti Om – Let us fully immerse ourselves in this practice. Stomp your feet, clap your hands, grab a shaker or tambourine, and get this grounding beat and peace mantra chanted into your cells. This is a mood-booster for sure!

Track 3 Om Gum Ganapataye Namaha – This chant invokes the energy of Ganesha who aims to remove obstacles, negativity and fear, while also ushering in new beginnings, and replenishing our root chakra. This track has the add support of rainstick and drone for a richer soundscape experience.

Track 4 Ah Heart Seed Sound – The seed syllable sound of the heart chakra is Ah. Join the group for this wake up and activation of the heart chakra. Enjoy the absolutely heavenly choir of tones created spontaneously by the group experience.

Track 5 Sri Ram Jai Ram – There are so many ways to praise “the One.” It’s all just about love and devotion, the bhakti path of heart. Learn how to use chant as medicine. You’ll hear Matt Kahn chime in about chocolate as Matt and Julie joke about cilantro, bacon, and bleu cheese. Be sure to clap along as the energy builds and dance and whirl to your heart’s content.

Track 6 So Hum – “So” is the outbreath and “Hum” is the inbreath creating a circle of breath and mantra, each connected to one another. The Sanskrit translations is “I am that, that I am.” This is seeing yourself in everyone and everything, and acknowledging the divinity of life. Let this chant rock you back and forth; let the sweeping motion of this chant settle and balance the hemispheres of your brain and cells of the whole body.

Live Chants Vol. 2

Out of the three-volume set of live retreat chants, this one has a more energized vibe with three tracks that include a drumbeat and a real grounding element to them. Add your own voice to the mix and feel your own creative groove. There is no right or wrong sound to make—it’s all about self-love, self-expression, and exploration of sound.

Track 1 Introduction to Om & Meditation – Om (Aum) is the seed sound of mantra, the cosmic yes, the great unifier. This is a powerful live group chanting of Om. It is the past, present, future, and entire Universe in one sound. After the chanting, there is a present moment awareness guided meditation. Let this be a pause in your day to unwind, soften, relax, invite, allow, and welcome in the best life has to offer you.

Track 2 I Am Liberated I Am Free – Om shanti shanti shantihi. Join in with the group for Julie’s original and powerful version of this chant to invoke peace in yourself and in the world.

Track 3 Aham Prema – This features a talk about mudras – specific hand symbols and gestures to move and direct energy. The Kali mudra is used here for release and spiritual purification when combined with the chant: Aham Prema. This chant serves to anchor “I am divine love; divine love I am.” Let yourself explore your voice and its full range. Be playful and explore the body and voice. After all that love is chanted, check out that powerful blast of Om at the end! Wow!

Track 4 Drum Chant – This is Julie’s own inspired shamanic rhythms and Ah ha he ho hum words to root and ground in the body and to the Earth. The pulsing, regulating beat provides the body and brain a vibrational place to land and the chance to recognize and remember how good it feels to move and make sounds.

Track 5 Ram – Set to a frame drumbeat, this is chanting of Ram, which is a Sanskrit invocation for “spiritual victory.” This is a simple, repetitive, and meditative mantra that inspires peace and harmony. This is one of Gandhi’s favorite chants and the last thing on his lips as he passed from this world.

Track 6 Om Namah Shivaya – Set to a steady frame drumbeat, this activates our ancient tribal roots. Clap and chant along. This is a chant to say, “I bow to the inner Self.” This is a testament to the power of group song and what happens when we join our voices together.

Track 7 Chimes & Teachings on Chant – Julie offers whimsical chimes that awaken your innocence and remembrance of who you truly are. This leads into a teaching about chant and how sacred sounds and vibrations heal us. It is an offering of how to let the chant be a healing nectar and to love the one who might judge.

Live Changes Vol. 3

Out of the three-volume set of live retreat chants, this one has a softer, quieter vibe with two tracks that are very intimate and reach into those deeper places within us. There is also a beautiful, peace-inducing gratitude awareness piece, and Julie’s famous “I Love You” melody that was sung at the “Whatever Arises Love That” book launch and nearly every retreat.

Track 1 Thanking the Body Meditation & Om Bath – Julie offers a teaching to appreciate the divine flow of life in the body and on the planet. Reminder about chanting as an offering of love for oneself and all beings everywhere. It’s not about having a perfect sound, it’s about sincerity of heart.

Track 2 Ocean Breath & Jai Ma – Here Julie offers teachings about Ganesha the remover of obstacles, anchoring the Divine feminine on the planet, and connecting with the Divine Mother. She talks about Shiva and Shakti energies which leads into a celebration of the “Ma” within us and around us. All these voices are so beautiful. What a choir. What energy!

Track 3 I Love You – This is Julie’s melody that came to her after spending time in the jungles of Mexico. Catch these good vibes and share the love! It starts soft and sweet and takes you on a journey of higher levels. Notice how the sound evolves and each voice is such a valuable part of the whole. This is so rich in high and low tones and beautiful harmonies.

Track 4 Chime Meditation – This is a guide journey set to specially-tuned crystal chimes…there are so many ways to touch the heart, to open the mind, and to remember.

Track 5 Sansula Om Namah Shivaya – Julie softly chants Om Namah Shivaya while playing the Sansula (a kalimba “thumb piano”) as retreat attendees enter the room in silence.
